As Luba and Danielle were leaving Friday, the notion of having dinner party #2 came to me. I hate for the party to end, even if it’s at 2 in the morning.
I woke up Saturday and started googling for veggie recipes. Ok, I worked on this site, played a few hours of RTCW and then panicked around 5 O’Clock. After a cursory search, I settled on Crunchy Vegetable Wraps and Peanut Stew with Banana and Couscous.
At this point it was around 6, and I’d told people to show up at 8. Typical gerrard planning. Lori came over around that time, so she accompanied me on the ingredient shopping expedition. Somehow, Banana Nectar has become some sort of verbotten material. I searched three stores, including a gourmet supermarket and a vegetarian store with zero luck…
Anyway, the wraps were a big hit. Unfortunately, I think I overestimated the appetite of our mainly female (5/7) audience as the girls were all full before the second course made it out of the kitchen. We’ve got a tiny NYC kitchen, so there’s almost no way to make multiple courses at one time.
The Peanut Stew tasted a lot like pineapple and onion mash, and didn’t go over quite as well with the already stuffed crowd. I don’t think I’ll be making it again.
It’s hard to believe, but I really enjoy cooking once in a while.
