Arnold vs. My sense of irony

Like many New Yorkers my primary mode of defense in these surreal times has been irony. We elected a simpleton to the most powerful position in the world under fishy circumstances? How ironic! We’ve used a tragedy as an excuse to give away our right to habeas corpus? Wow, the irony. We’ve invaded a sovereign country without support from the world community to destroy weapons we can’t find and links to terrorists that don’t even make sense? Oh, what irony!

Well, my irony supply has finally run dry. Yesterday the voters of California elected Arnold Schwarzenegger as their new governor in the recall election. That’s right, a bad actor with no political experience and questionable attitudes towards women has just assumed control the largest state in the Union.

I’m not going to be nearly as incredulous reading the news going forward.
